The short answer
Most residential fences are priced per linear foot installed, plus a separate price for each gate. As a rough estimate, chain link often lands around $20 to $40 per foot, wood around $30 to $55, and six-foot vinyl privacy around $35 to $65 per foot in Utah County. These are rough ranges, not quotes.
What drives the price
- Total length, and whether the job meets a contractor's minimum
- Material and height
- Number and width of gates, especially RV or double drive gates
- Slopes, retaining walls and rocky soil that slow post digging
- Removing and hauling away an old fence
- Post reinforcement and footing size for windy areas
How to compare quotes
Make sure each quote lists the material, height, post spacing and depth, gate hardware, removal and cleanup, and the warranty. A lower price sometimes means shallower posts or thinner vinyl.
